2.3. Global Parameters
The next group of parameters you may alter consists of the global ones; global parameters are valid for all AddThis buttons and/or toolboxes that are displayed on a single web-page.
For all currently available AddThis services, as well as their Service Codes, check this updated services list.
- The first subgroup of global parameters consists of the following:
- In this field you may type in the Service Codes of the AddThis services (comma-separated), which you want to be displayed in the compact menu of the AddThis Button(s). Don't forget to include "more" in the list, so that your visitors have the option to choose any from the available services. If you leave empty some default services will be displayed instead. (default: empty)
- In this field you may type in the Service Codes of the AddThis services (comma-separated), which you want to appear in the expanded menu of the AddThis Button(s), which is displayed when the visitor hovers over/clicks with the mouse on the button. If you leave empty all available services will be displayed. (default: empty)
- Here you can type in a comma separated list with the services you want to exclude from all AddThis menus (both compact and expanded). (default: empty)
- If you choose "No" the standard AddThis CSS file will not be loaded, allowing you to style everything yourself without incurring the cost of an additonal load. (default: "Yes")
- If you choose "Yes", the visitors will be able to import their contacts from popular webmail services when using AddThis' email sharing. (default: "No")
- Select "Yes" to allow AddThis to append a variable to your URLs upon sharing. They will use this to track how many people come back to your content via links shared with AddThis. (default: "No")
- If you select "No", AddThis won't load the Flash-based analytics engine; some future reports will be affected. (default: "Yes")
- If you select "No", AddThis won't set any cookies at all; some future reports will be affected. (default: "Yes")
- Select "Yes" if you want to allow AddThis to track text that your users select and copy to their system clipboard. Always global. (default: "No")
- Select "Yes" if you want AddThis to send tracking events to Google, so you can have integrated reporting. Important note: this feature seems to be still in Public Beta. (default: "No")
- Optionally you may enter here the Google Analytics Property ID (generally a serial number of the form UA-xxxxxx-x). (default: empty)
- The second subgroup of global parameters consists of the following:
- Here you can change the header text color of the compact/expanded menu of AddThis. Enter the color code in hexadecimal number; example: FFCC12 (24-bit number). (default: empty)
- Here you can change the header background color of the compact/expanded menu; color code in 24-bit hexadecimal number as well. (default: empty)
- You can enter an optional brand name which will be displayed in the header of the compact/expanded menu. (default: empty)
- Optionally set the button's offset from top; value is defined in pixels and you can also use negative values. (default: empty)
- Optionally set the button's offset from left; value is defined in pixels and you can also use negative values. (default: empty)
- Direction of the compact menu; Choose "Standard" for browser free space based, or "Force up", "Force down" to force the menu appear in either direction. (default: "Standard")
- Optional delay, in milliseconds, before compact menu appears when mousing over a regular AddThis Button (max. value 500). (default: empty)
- If you select "Yes", all shares will open in a new pop-up window instead of a new tab or regular browser window. (default: "No")
Comments
ValAddThis has no control of what Facebook shares. The FB script reads your meta tags automatically. In order to control what is being shared you have to use OpenGraph tags: developers.facebook.com/.../...
It grabs the description metatext from the homepage, instead of the description from the article page.
I also have no control of what image it grabs and shares.
Can this feature be added?
As it regards the options for the various Buttons/Quick Toolbox I haven't found a way to style it; J1.6+ uses a totally different way to display images that were embedded in the XML file. In J1.5 all look just fine. As I already mention in the documentation, use the screenshots found here as a guide.
The code that is appended at the end of the URL being shared is an issue of AddThis and not ValAddThis. This is the case for the services that are displayed by AddThis; most of the times it helps if you enter you personal AddThis ID in the corresponding configuration field.
On the plugin screen you need to separate the different Button and Toolbox Parameters options in new lines. Its quite confusing to know what radio button chooses what.
Maybe simpler would be to choose services one by one in the Toolbox.
Data Track Linkback its off but a code its added to the URL shared to facebook (as in /index.php/a-rede-de-bibliotecas#.T516nMf-jso.facebook )
This plugin is not only great but is highly customizable.
The only problem i face is with twitter counter. It doesn't count +1 after tweeting.
I am using Joomla 1.7.3
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
I'm having some minor trouble with J2.5! though...
When I use the new built-in introtext/fulltext image options, the social bookmarking icons appear *below* the embedded image.
Maybe it's not even the plugin's fault, I don't know, just thought I'd mention it and hope for a fix.
Those included image options are very useful
Easy install, configurable, good working, nice looking, speaks many languages.
I only suggest 1 thing, lets include all icon in 32px size too.
