2.6. AddThis Toolbox Parameters

The last group of parameters consists of the AddThis Toolbox specific ones; Toolbox parameters are only valid for the AddThis toolboxes and they don't affect in any way the standard buttons.

For all currently available AddThis services, as well as their Service Codes, check this updated services list.

The Toolbox parameters are the following:
Screenshot - Parameters: Toolbox #1 - Quick Toolbox

  1. Here you may choose one of the 12 predefined quick toolboxes or a Custom Toolbox if you want to define the services yourself by using the AddThis Toolbox Services field below. Important note: the images aren't displayed correctly after J1.6 due to changes in the CSS of the administration backend. Take this screenshot as a guide if you have difficulties. 2. Choose "Yes" if you want the names of the services to be also displayed next to their icons (it's doesn't apply for the "CSS Vertical #2" Toolbox style). (default: "No")
  3. Choose "Yes" if you want to use a "rel=nofollow" attribute in the services links of the Toolbox. (default: "No")
  4. Choose the style for the AddThis Toolbox; the CSS styles use styles from the plugin's CSS files and you may have multiple toolboxes on a single web-page that use different styles. (default: "Default")
    • Default: It uses the CSS file default.css and the service icons are placed horizontally.
      Example:
    • Default 32px: It uses the CSS file default32.css, the service icons are 32 pixels wide and placed horizontally.
    • Vertical: It uses the CSS file vertical.css and the service icons are placed vertically.
      Example:
    • Vertical 32px: It uses the CSS file vertical32.css, the service icons are 32 pixels wide and placed vertically.
    • CSS Horizontal: It uses the CSS file horizontal.css and the icons are placed horizontally with a hover effect.
Example: ValAddThis: Example of CSS Horizontal styling
    • CSS Vertical #1: It uses the CSS file vertical1.css and the icons are placed vertically with a hover effect.
Example: ValAddThis: Example of CSS Vertical #1 styling
    • CSS Vertical #2: It uses the CSS file vertical2.css and the icons are placed vertically with a hover effect.
Example: ValAddThis: Example of CSS Vertical #2 styling
    • CSS User-Defined: It uses the CSS file user.css, which can be modified by you; this file is an exact copy of default.css. After you install the plugin, you can find this file here: plugins/content/valaddthis/css/user.css (after J1.6 this is located inside folder plugins/content/valaddthis/valaddthis/css/).
  5. Optionally you may enter the width of the AddThis Toolbox using a CSS value. Example: 100px, 95%, auto etc.; this style will be attached as an inline CSS style and you are recommended to use it. (default: empty)
  6. Optionally you may enter a text that will be displayed next to the Toolbox and it will be treated either as a sharing title or as an alt text for the optional sharing image below. A CSS class with the name "share" is applied to it. (default: empty)
  7. Here you may enter the URL of a share image, which is going to be displayed next to the Toolbox; use the Share (alt) Text above if you want to define an alt text for the sharing image. The URL can be either absolute or document-relative. A CSS class with the name "share" is applied to it and you may use one of the following sample images plugins/content/valaddthis/images/add_to_fav_20.png (20px) or plugins/content/valaddthis/images/add_to_fav_32.png (32px) (after J1.6 those are located inside folder plugins/content/valaddthis/valaddthis/images/). (default: empty)
  8. Optionally you may define a text here that will be displayed in place of "Send to", which is used for the tooltips of the service icons. (default: empty)
  9. Choose if you want to use the icon "More" inside the Toolbox, so that your visitors will be able to select from all available services. This will display a "More" icon right after the other service icons; if you want to display a "More" icon on another position just use a service name of more in the services list. (default: "No")
  10. Optionally enter a text that will be displayed next to the "More"-icon; leave empty if you want only the "More"-icon to be displayed. (default: empty)
  11. Optionally you may enter a text/character that will work as a separator between the "More"-icon and the rest icons; it works only in combination with the "Default" Toolbox style. (default: empty)

Important note: The following services were rewritten because their AddThis alternatives have produced invalid XHTML code: facebook_like and tweetmeme. For this reason these services won't be included in your personal AddThis Analytics.

ValAddThis has no control of what Facebook shares. The FB script reads your meta tags automatically. In order to control what is being shared you have to use OpenGraph tags: developers.facebook.com/.../...

ValAddThis is a GREAT plugin, however, a facebook recommend button, places an message on the fb timetime with the wrong text and the wrong image.

It grabs the description metatext from the homepage, instead of the description from the article page.

I also have no control of what image it grabs and shares.

Can this feature be added?

Hi! First of all, great plugin and easy to configure/customize. One question: is there any option for the vote/share buttons to share just the website address rather than the single article? I'm setting up a website and when clicked a share button (example Facebook "I Like"), it applied to the specific articles. Thanks beforehand for any help! :D

Quoting Horus68:
Good extension.
On the plugin screen you need to separate the different Button and Toolbox Parameters options in new lines. Its quite confusing to know what radio button chooses what.
Maybe simpler would be to choose services one by one in the Toolbox.

Data Track Linkback its off but a code its added to the URL shared to facebook (as in /index.php/a-rede-de-bibliotecas#.T516nMf-jso.facebook )

As it regards the options for the various Buttons/Quick Toolbox I haven't found a way to style it; J1.6+ uses a totally different way to display images that were embedded in the XML file. In J1.5 all look just fine. As I already mention in the documentation, use the screenshots found here as a guide.

The code that is appended at the end of the URL being shared is an issue of AddThis and not ValAddThis. This is the case for the services that are displayed by AddThis; most of the times it helps if you enter you personal AddThis ID in the corresponding configuration field.

Καλημέρα,

This plugin is not only great but is highly customizable.
The only problem i face is with twitter counter. It doesn't count +1 after tweeting.

I am using Joomla 1.7.3

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Valandis, thanks again for this great plugin.

I'm having some minor trouble with J2.5! though...
When I use the new built-in introtext/fulltext image options, the social bookmarking icons appear *below* the embedded image.
Maybe it's not even the plugin's fault, I don't know, just thought I'd mention it and hope for a fix.
Those included image options are very useful

The Very Best Social Web Module i have tried.

Easy install, configurable, good working, nice looking, speaks many languages.

I only suggest 1 thing, lets include all icon in 32px size too.

Facebook counter is hidden. If i have an option to the settings to change facebook width that would be a solution.
