mod_valaddthis

Current Version: 2.5.2 (October 2011)
Compatibility:

The module ValAddThis is compatible with both Joomla! versions 1.5 as well as 1.6 and 1.7, and it uses the Bookmarking services of AddThis.com. For a complete list of the AddThis features take a look at this page. The module ValAddThis allows the easy configuration as well the display of the AddThis Button or AddThis Toolbox. It produces valid markup for XHTML as well as for CSS 2.1. ValAddThis is free software, which has been released under the GNU/GPL v2.0 license.
This version of the module supports the latest AddThis Menu Client API 2.0, in combination with the old API 1.0 (which is still used
to display an RSS-Feed button). With ValAddThis you're also able to display
the new AddThis
Toolbox as well as several other special buttons (such as: LinkedIn and Stumbleupon counters), which aren't supported officially by AddThis yet; for more details on the various configuration options read on. New features in this latest version of ValAddThis plugin will be marked with
this icon: ![]()
All the documentation screenshots were taken in Joomla! 1.5, but they won't look much different in J1.6 and 1.7.
1. Installation
If you have already an older version (prior to 2.5.0) of the module ValAddThis installed, please uninstall it first and then continue with the installation steps below:
- Go to your Joomla administration backend and on the menu Extensions and
click on "Install/Uninstall" (for J1.7 is "Extension Manager").

- Upload the file contained here by
clicking on "Browse..." and selecting the zipped file.

- Click on "Upload file & Install".

Now the module "ValAddThis" is installed in Joomla and you can begin using it.

Comments
My website is targeted to Japanese. Is there a way to customize the main buttons. I can easily edit the "more" options, but I think I will lose many shares if they are hidden in the popup window.
We've been using this for a while with SSL and the option Secure Server enabled. It seems however that the facebook_like breaks the SSL connection. Any ideas how to fix this?
Yes, send me the logins to your demo site and I will look into it.
Sorry, Chrysovalantis, but it doesn´t seem to work. I did as advised,
awesomescreenshot.com/.../
but there is no change at all at the compact menue
Will ask for more help at the AddThis forum, might be they know about this bug.
If you would like to get an access to the demo site, I am happy to PM it to you.
Yes that will change it only for you; this is an AddThis issue actually, it uses these default (favourite) services in the compact menu. When I removed them from that list, it showed only the ones I defined in the backend. The expanded menu worked with the no issues at all from the very beginning. Try to put just print, favourites, more in the services list and see (no google_plusone!).
...I just tried this on the demo site, it doesn#t seem to work for me. The services are defined as per screenshot and still the full list is showing up.
Furthermore, if I change the list of services like you advised, wouldn´t it just change for me and not for all the visitors of the site?
Thanks again for your appreciated help!
I managed to reproduce that issue, which is actually no issue at all! The services that you see there, are predefined as your "favourite" services; hover with your mouse over the AddThis button and click on Settings on the lower left corner. In the pop-up window remove all favourite services from the right list and then click on Save. Last but not least, reload the page and voila! You see only the services that you defined (for the compact and expanded menus).
First of all, thank you for this extension!
I have a comprehension problem, defining the services using the AddThis button. At the backend I used just one service to show at the "Compact-Menue":
awesomescreenshot.com/030mufl7e
and another at the "Expanded-Menue".
As it seems, it woun´t work:
awesomescreenshot.com/063mufyf5
Do you have any advice on this one? I really don´t want to use all the services available.
Thanks in advance!
Hi Pavol and thank you for the feedback. Yes, you are right, there is an issue with the URL being shared when the ValAddThis only buttons (counters) are used. I started working on a fix and I will release an update as soon as possible.
you created wonderful and flexible module which is very useful. Thanks! However I have one issue. I would like to use only module (as on Mashable sites) on the left side of the content. PROBLEM: Facebook Like button (with top counter) is sharing only homepage url and not current url. When I use regular "F" facebook button share it shares correct url and content. Do you have idea how could I fix that? I have installed ValAddthis module on yesterday so I have latest version 2.5.1. Many thanks.
Pavol
